Episode 1: The Minimum Wage

In this introductory episode, Tara and Kate talk about the new minimum wage legislation that came into effect in Ontario in January. In addition to explaining what the legislation does and how it affects Ontarians, they also describe some common criticisms of minimum wage increases. In an effort to show the way the minimum wage has changed things for Ontarians, they also speak to a few minimum wage earners and a small business owners.


  • hold the minimum wage at $14/hour
  • eliminate income tax on minimum wage earners
  • increased the minimum wage to $14/hour on January 1st of 2018 (up from $11.60/hour)
  • server’s minimum wage was increased to $12.20/hour (up from $9.90)
  • the minimum wage will increase the minimum wage to $15/hour
  • server’s minimum wage will increase the minimum wage to $13.05/hour
  • have been supportive of an increase on minimum wage for a long time
  • will increase the minimum wage to $15/hour for all workers (including servers) – their platform does not say when
